extension program

It is at the heart of the existence of Don Bosco Foundation for Sustainable Development, Inc. (DBFSDI) — its raison d'etre — to reach out to peoples and communities, to lead them to the path of sustainable development. Thus, within Extension program the following sub-programs are implemented:

Sustainable Agriculture Productivity Development (SAPD)
The SAPD is the centerpiece program of Extension. This takes charge of spreading the good news of sustainable agriculture through the promotion of holistic farming systems with APPLIED SCIENCE OF BIODYNAMICS IN AGRICULTURE at its core. Biodynamic farming is an advance science in agriculture — a holistic science as opposed to reductionist materialistic science. Holistic, in the sense of approaching agriculture from the micro level, to the macro level to the supermacro or cosmic level, embracing both the sense perceptible and the supersensible, matter and non-matter.

In Mindanao, the DBFSDI has been at the forefront of its promotion not only among farming communities directly within its area of operation but also among civil society organizations and their partner-PO's (Peoples Organization), local government units, government agencies and academic institutions and private enterprises.

The SAPD program facilitates the paradigm shift of the conventional farmer to biodynamic and organic agriculture through the conduct of training of the farmers on the principles and practices/methods of both organic and biodynamic farming. The extension program is operating in seven (7) District Extension Areas with District Extension offices of which four (4) are in North Cotabato, one (1) in South Cotabato and one (1) in Davao del Sur province. The SAPD has converted 3,440 hectares of formerly conventional agriculture systems owned by 3,440 small farming families into biodynamic production system. These are coming from the SAPD program of DBFSDI, which has reached out to 17 LGU's (local government units) and GA's (government agencies), 26 NGO's (non-government organizations), 33 PO's, and nine (9) trainings centers/institutions outside of its area of operation. Within its area of operation, it works in partnership with three (3) LGU's and one (1) GA on the ground.

"We are committed to help bring about a transition from an anthropocentric to a biocentric norm of life, one that does diminish the splendor of the life support systems of the Earth which are the modes of the awesome magnificence of the Divine.  Beyond democracy, we are COMMITTED to BIOCRACY. "
